Scuderia's Project
Hi All,
Well here is my little Project car,
Its a 1998 Fiat Cinquecento Fire Sporting 1108cc,
I bought it in October 08 in Newcastle as a project car to help fill my spare time and help empty my bank account which its doing a good job of but its all worth it,its know way perfect and anything that has been done to it i have done it myself which iam happy with so thats all the matters to me ,
I just plane to use it for Italian meets and events and the odd track day for a little fun for me and my youngest,
Its currently SORN so its off the road but i do plan to get tested next Month and then use it over the summer Months then iam away to rebuild the engine and change the exhaust system,i do have other plans but there is to much to list,if you have any questions just ask,
I will add more pics as and when i get the time or do any work on it to keep the thread updated,
All the best Scuderia

what a fantastic littel project...
i won`t lie.. the wee fiat doesn`t immeditaly spring to my mind as having "track" potential.. but i guess like i always say it doesn`t matter what you start with.. as long as it gets prep`d well and makes you smile ANY car can be a track tool...
i bet its a hoot on tight twisty stuff...

I have to be honest its not a car i thought i would ever own but as i said it only started as a project time filler,it not all singing all dancing track car but like you say its a hoot to drive and it certainly has the fun factor,

Re: Scuderia's Project
Hi Chaps,
Well a little update....well of sorts
Now back in January i was planning it getting the Fiat tested as i had a few Italian shows later this year to go to but sadly i have decided to put the test off till next year,
Now i have been bordering changing the lump in this little car as i would like some more straight line speed but to be honest iam not keen to so i have decided to keep the 1108cc Fire none interference engine,ok its only 54bhp from standard but a day out on the rollers last year i was able to the amazing figure of 73.5 lol but i think i can add more to that so i have decided to remove the little lump in the next few weeks and get it stripped down and rebuilt from top to bottom with whatever needs doing,i plan to get the fly wheel lightened but not by much and get the head skimmed to get a little more compression and if the budget will allow it?? get the head and valves ported and polished,
Now as i said before iam going to keep it road legal as i still need to travel to my Italian events so the cat will need to stay but i do have plans to get a full stainless steel custom made exhaust and manifold fitted and i do also have plans for another spi throttle body from another Fiat or even peugeot?106 i think?not sure yet? it will all come to down to what cash i have or i can get off the oh :oops:but all going well it should be out on the road and track next Spring?
Well i had a little time on my hands last week so i was able to get a few little jobs done it
Now as much as there is no Fiat rust worm on it the rear bumper brackets were rotten so i got them removed and hope to get a new set next week from Fiat all going well,
Old Bumper Brackets
The Rest of the Brackets In The Form Of Dust lol
When i fitted my mud flap last year they were fine but now i have fitted larger Toyo 888 tyres they were buffing on them on full lock so i had to removed them from the wheel arch liner where i first fitted them and have now fitted them to the wing after making up some alloy brackets,
Over and Out,
Cheers Scuderia

I knew about them but kept putting it off done now,
No Ive not...but what i plan to do it get the car jacked up and put on the axle stands at the front then get the exhaust removed then the front bumper then split the box as there is also a new clutch getting fitted so it needs to come off any roads, then iam going to strip the complete front end out of it and remove every thing so all going well i should be able to then jack it up off the mounts so to speak and drop it down and pull it out from under the car?? well thats the plane then i can think about getting a hoist for when it need to go back in,

Hi Marty,
Yeah it was Simples one none interference 1108cc Fire Engine removed,
I got the exhaust manifold and cat took off this morning then the engine, box, alternator, starter, spi unit, intake, manifold, coil packs out as a whole unit this afternoon by just dropping it all down on the jack and pulling it out then i split it all down,
I hope to get it all cleaned up over the next few days then i can think about splitting the engine

Re: Scuderia's Project
Hi All,
Well Ive had a little time on my hands to start stripping the engine,
I have to be honest the little 1108cc has had a very lucky escape.....another track day and i would most definitely have blown the head gasket and even buggered the head or even the block,
When stripping it i noticed one of the head bolts had started to corrode as the coolant had been leaking through the head gasket to the bolt hole,
Good and bad bolt and where the gasket had let go
You can see the gasket has gone/was going. There should be a clean line around all the fire-rings in the gasket, just from that photo there is a number of places where it wasn't sealing properly.....
Well i have managed to get the top end all stripped and clean up a little and brushed up with some fresh oil to keep the rust at bay until i get it all built back up?? after the summer all going well?? we'll see,
Now i have the head all stripped...... apart from the old valve stem oil seals i can get the head sent away to get the work done on it that i have planned,
When i get the head back then i can start to polish and port it and also polish the valves,as always i will update when i have something to update on,
Cheers Scuderia
